After a successful career as a political assistant to both a federal and provincial cabinet minister in Canada – I was increasingly drawn to creative life. I took an art course and found my true passion was art – not politics. I recognized that I was not only the sort of person whose spirit is fed by visual treats, but that I was also the sort of person who needed to create or wither. I pursued studies in art as my children were growing up and have never looked back! Because I found such bliss in the creative life I now teach workshops for children and adults.
WHY WE'RE ONE OF A KIND
NOTE: On VACATION re opening MARCH 16, 2016 THANK you for visiting.
My wish for my home decor line - Om for your Home - is that the calm and joyful energy I feel when I am creating a new print or an illustration is felt by those that bring my work into their homes and make it their own.
I love designing a screen print image which I then hand print onto a plain piece of fabric. That action transforms the fabric into a piece of art. Working in my home studio or in the glorious outdoors I might print two yards or 100 tea towels in an afternoon. Printing allows me to shut off my mind and flow. The rhythm of pouring the ink - running the squegee over the fabric again and again is meditative and satisfying.
I work outdoors whenever I can because I feel the wonderful calm energy of nature infuses the work. Last summer I created all the illustrations for my owl and moon calendars -sitting under my pergola - surrounded by trees and chirping birds.
(Photo above: freshly printed napkins drying outside & below: towels in the studio ready to be heat set.)
A blogger nailed it recently when she said "Christine would like her work to move YOU in some way: to bring you peace, joy, serenity…"*
As well as joy, creative bliss and bird songs - I use water based fabric inks. There is no chemical finish applied. Printing in this way uses much less water and less ink. The fabric ink is heat set by me and will withstand normal washing.
My Illustrations and calendars are customizable and are reprinted on archival quality paper.
