Originally from Ontario, I had been based in Nelson since 2010, and moved house to Fernie, BC in summer of 2014. I grew up in an artistic household where I learned early in life the basics of sewing, tools, paint, macrame, cross stitch, knitting... and generally how to make ideas into physical things.
I have the luxury of working on my own projects at home full time and in an artistic and supportive environment elsewhere, part time. Currently, my focus revolves around micro macrame and wet felting hats.
I love the meditative aspect of micro macrame. My full heart and attention goes into every piece. There is only one way to finish a massive creation and that is simply one knot at a time. I have maxed out my knotting speed and a piece can still take me 60 hours to complete one item... I really enjoy that!
Making wet felted hats is a craft I enjoy because it's finished product is something that I can neither control or completely plan. I can start with a general outline... but it's good practice for me to be without total control and to do the best I can with what I'm given. Plus, I am fond of hats!
I have had the pleasure of making hats for Grammy Award winning musician, Jason Mraz, as well as various macrame items over the last six years. I have sold my wears all over Canada and the USA from Toronto, Denver, Vancouver, LA, many cities in between, and all of the way to UK and Norway!
Above all, I care about quality. I critique my work on a micro level, and having the patience to see a task through to completion and done “right” is both important to me and exceptionally rewarding in a way that I couldn't begin to explain. I hope looking at my ideas that I have patiently made into physical items brings you all the enjoyment I have had making them.
I make everything with my own two hands, and I make a lot out of very little. My materials are fairly basic, and with years of learning and practice under my belt, it is my technique, knowledge, patience, passion, understanding, skill and imaginationthat make my final products so unique. The value of my work is in my craftsmanship and time spent creating each item.
Micro Macrame: I always use high quality waxed polyester string from Brazil. I have various things that I might incorporate into a piece; polished cabochons, Delica seed beads, other beads, chain, brass plating, and/or high quality findings.
Wet Felted Hats: I always make the main part of the hat using soft Merino wool, accompanying this could be many different things; beads, upcycled watched or jewelry, needle felted designs, neckties, or whatever I think will look nice!
I ship worldwide!
