"Botanista" is the name of my first ever, full jewelry collection. It represents a mash up of the words "botanist" and "fashionista" OR it is simply Spanish for "botanist" which is meaningful to me because I was introduced to this style of macrame when I lived in my school bus in Mexico and Central America for a year. My waxed polyester string I use is actually from Brazil (Portuguese, of course, but South American nonetheless). I have been secretly working on this dream line since January 1st, 2014! All of the pieces in this collection have taken between 2 and 7 FULL days of working, in many mediums. I have used the skills of macrame, botany, cutting metal, sanding, drilling, wire wrapping, trigonometry, metal stamping... and any other thing I had to solve to make each piece work! I am so proud of this line!
It will take a special person to own one of these pieces because this jewelry is alive! As you can see, there is a real live plant in there, so this piece needs someone to love it as both a living thing, and art jewelry. The technical name for this plant is tillandsia, but they are more commonly known as air plants. They are really cool little life forms, they only require being lightly misted with water a few times a week (spray bottle included, as well as detailed care information) or a one hour "dunk" in water every 7-14 days, but absolutely no soil whatsoever. Plant not included, they are popular and easy to come by at local plant and flower shops right now, additionally, I will include any helpful links to helpful websites.
*I have taken and edited these photos to the best of my ability to be true representations of my work, please remember that colours will vary slightly on different monitors.
*Survival of the plant is the responsibility of the new owner.
This art piece is quite large. Please pay close attention to the last photo of the necklace on the mannequin. The brushed brass rod back holds the necklace open very wide across the shoulders and asymmetrical. The area that has the air plant actually has three clasps fastening it to the necklace, this means, you could technically un-clip them and wear this necklace as just cascading triangles!
I hope you enjoy this piece, and the rest of Botanista.
