Growing up, Sandy had always preserved with her mom, we always had a large garden and summers were spent growing vegetables and making preserves. Sixteen years ago Sandy started Cook’s Gourmet; this business has changed, thrived and products are still hand-made by this married couple team. While driving through the County (Prince Edward County) I passed a couple of Hard Cider makers. My mind began to wonder and I questioned if anyone used Hard Cider in their products. After researching, I found that there wasn’t anyone using Hard Cider in food production beyond cider makers posting recipes online.

Loving to create recipes, I went to the kitchen! It was great fun I was so excited talking with farmers and sourcing my ingredients. Using Ontario grown (apples, hard cider, fruits and veggies); I created a line of Hard Cider products and continue to expand of that line. Next, products were sent off for nutritional and lab analysis, labels printed and recipes scaled for higher yield production.

The problem with my new line is it doesn’t match with the Mediterranean line of Cook’s Gourmet. I decided to branch off with my own design of booth and products. Dave and I like to be beside each other at shows (larger booth) so that we can help each other, watch the other booth if one of us needs to leave for 5 minutes, Dave and I always attend our booth. We have also found that being apart with my own Hard Cider booth works just fine as well.

Hard Cider Kitchen is just an evolution of Sandy growing as a designer of healthy natural foods.
