In 2006 I took my first lamp working workshop and was instantly hooked. I set up a studio in our basement and began experimenting, making glass beads. I love working with glass, with the colours and the forms I can produce, watching (sometimes with surprise) what happens in the flame. And I love that now I have a product that I can sell that not only gives me great joy in producing, but makes the world a better place. How great is that!
My glass drinking straws are made one at a time on my torch. They are reusable, dishwasher safe, durable and totally fun. I have plain ones, but for those wanting something more, I have cats, dogs, music notes and more.
For the past 7 years I've been working with glass using a torch and mostly making beads. My husband would ask me, ever so often, what I was going to do with all of the beads I was making and my answer was always the same, "I don't know". I knew an idea would eventually emerge, and I continued to spend hours on my torch making beads that I seldom used.
My youngest son will only drink out of a straw, and one night as my husband spilled the straws out of the kitchen drawer for the umpteenth time, he asked me to look on line for a straw dispenser.
Instead of ordering a straw dispenser, I went onto my torch and started playing with the glass tubing a friend had given me. By early morning I had my first glass straws made. I was finally able to find a practical use for my lamp working!
We figure that we save over 100 straws from the landfill each month per person by using glass straws. It's estimated that in the US alone, 5 MILLION plastic straws are used EACH DAY!!!!. I feel great that for every glass straw that is purchased, hundreds of plastic straws are saved from the landfills.
All orders are sent Canadian Parcel Post unless requested otherwise, shipped from Vancouver, BC. Orders normally take 5-8 business days to get to Ontario, and up to 10 days to arrive in the US.
If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase, you may send it back for a full refund. If glass straws are broken or damaged at any time (for any reason) I will replace them for a $3 shipping fee.
