Claire Manning Illustration and Design

Claire Manning

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

In pursuit of cute.

I am an illustrator based out of Toronto, Canada. Since graduating from the Sheridan College Illustration program in 2004, I've spent my time observing and investigating the world for interesting and cute ways to express my vision.

My style can be described as whimsical, fun, and always full of life. I enjoy working on natural grounds, and use elements of fabric pattern as inspiration to accentuate my characters and themes. My illustration work has been featured in various publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The Toronto Star, The National Post, The Globe and Mail, Mother and Baby Magazine UK, Where Magazine, Today's Parent and Canadian Family Magazine. Companies including Chrysler, Hershey’s Canada, Workopolis, and Frito Lays have also utilized my art in advertisements.

In addition to my commercial work I also take time to develop my own self directed work. My medium of choice is traditional screen printing variety of grounds. I have created my own line of hand printed flour sack tea towels, aprons, and pillows which are sold online and are available at shops across Canada. I also sell my personal work at various art and craft events in the Toronto area. My themes of choice are the things I love. You'l always find animals, vegetables, and a mermaid here and there. Everything is happy and decorative.

I have also had the opportunity show my original acrylic paintings at exhibitions around Toronto at venues such as the John B. Aird Gallery, the Magic Pony Gallery, and the Gladstone Hotel Speakeasy evenings and have won awards for my work at juried events.

The joyous reactions I get from the viewers and owners of my art are my constant compass that directs the work that I do. My goal will always be to create pieces that are out of the ordinary and distinctly me. That being said, I am endlessly inspired by the peers with whom I share a profession. I look forward to creating art until I’m old and grey.

Why We’re One of a Kind

Not only do I create all of the art for my product line, I also hand print each item and so every piece has it's own characteristics. I embrace the little differences, since that's what sets me apart from a factory. Truly one of a kind!

Primary Materials

Water based screen printing ink, 100% cotton fabric.
