About

The Forest Was Where Her Passion For Scent Began.

Hollow Tree 1871 first took root in the remote Forests of British Columbia. Inspired by the majestic Forests of the Pacific Northwest, handcrafted in small batches within the Coastal Mountains of British Columbia.

Hollow Tree is inspired by a young girl who loved exploring the outdoors driven by creative passion and informed by over 20 years of exploring British Columbia’s backcountry. Tree planting and hiking led to a lifelong passion to protect the Forest and it’s ecosystems.

Learning about trees and loving them she became a connoisseur of the Forests enchanted with the idea of preserving and sharing the sense and scents of the West Coast Wilderness. Each year new senses were activated as new scents were discovered in alpines meadows, Forest groves, verdant valleys within the Coastal Mountains of the rugged Pacific West Coast.

Hollow Tree is about sharing the love and the magic of the Pacific West Coast’s impossible fairy tale Forests with you.

It’s a way for us and for you to share the stories of ancient trees and astonishing seedlings, whether you’ve visited the West Coast Forests yourself or have only experienced them through pictures and postcards.

Tree ring by tree ring, Hollow Tree was created out of a love for British Columbia. A love cultivated by decades of exploration, adventure, and a never ending wonderment in the Forests of BC. Let The Adventure Begin

Learn To Speak Tree

Why We’re One of a Kind

Hollow Tree – inspired by the iconic landmark in Stanley Park, Vancouver – an 800 year old Western Red Cedar tree, the provincial tree of British Columbia. As a former forester planting trees throughout the mountains and valleys of the Pacific Northwest, she discovered her passion for trees; the sanctuary they provided, the scents they gave off, the inspiration they created. She spent many years exploring the forests in British Columbia and has gathered her stories and articulated them in an art form, creating a line of pure beautiful candles.

Primary Materials

Fragrance Never Forgets.

Hollow Tree scents are distilled in Grasse, France – the birthplace of scent, to provide the ultimate olfactory experience. For years, she has been working with exquisite French perfumers in Grasse, France to mix memories of the forest into scents.

The Art of Being in Nature is the Art of Living.

And every Hollow Tree candle is a living example of that art. Using a ‘proprietary’ blend of premium coconut wax, each candle is hand poured in her studio located in Whistler, British Columbia. Hollow Tree candles have a burn time of up to 60 hours. To ensure this, their wicks are made of the finest cotton so they burn cleaner and longer.

Scents Make Memories, Memories Make Magic.

Nestled in the coastal mountains of British Columbia, Hollow Tree’s hand pours each candle in their elegant, custom jars which are made in studio in Whistler. The ceramic jar is designed to represent life from her forestry work in logging and planting camps within the rugged coastal forests of British Columbia, where she celebrates her muse: The Pacific Northwest.

Love Where You Live

Her Philosophy is that the packaging is as important as the scent. Inspired by her experiences and love of art, her design and composition of the box is influenced by the Group of Seven and Canadian artist, Tom Thomson’s painting called West Wind and British Columbia’s old growth forests.

The black box is round, reminiscent of a tree, which led her to create 4 series within Hollow. Over the years, she has curated stories inspired by her work in forestry, politics, her love for history and her adventures in the backcountry while sharing the sights and scents of British Columbia.

The series are 1871, Backpacker, Library of Trees, and Botanical. Each series has a host of scents with a unique name and story which binds itself to the series in a poetic nuance.
