About

I love practical, beautiful things, especially hats. I also love knitting, and how wool is transformed to a thick, durable fabric by the process of felting.

I made a felted hat for myself when I got back into knitting a few years ago and friends kept asking me to make them one, and Lynn's Lids was born.

I get a genuine thrill when someone tries on a Lynn's Lid and it suits them perfectly, and I know my hat will keep them stylishly warm and dry for years to come.

In making hats, I knit them up very loosely and shrink them down using hot water, a little soap, and agitation, and the wool becomes a thick (approximately 5mm / 1/4") windproof and waterproof felt. Then they are shaped over a block and allowed to dry completely, which takes 2-3 days. They are extremely durable and keep their shape, along with keeping the weather out and the wearer looking great. Most of my hats are my original designs, based on customer requests or whimsy that pop into my head.

My tea & coffee press cosies and tree toppers are hand knit and felted in the same was as the hats, and then once blocked and dry, adorned with needle felting.

I make original felted ornaments, starting by wet felting a ball of natural roving, and adding colour and details with needle felting. I use wool roving from a farm down the road from me on Amherst Island, Ontario.

The idea for the Sheepy Wool Dryer Balls came from the David Suzuki Foundation newsletter. Anything to help reduce dryer time seemed like a good idea, but the plain balls were just too... plain. So I came up with the sheep and needle felted it onto the balls. Now I smile every time I open my dryer!

Why We’re One of a Kind

My designs are classic and simple, my products are durable, and I stand behind every product I make. All of my hats, cosies, and tree toppers are designed by me and made by hand, and therefore unique. My work is customizable, from the colours to sizes, to needle felted designs on them, and there are many custom works by Lynn's Lids out there that are truly one of a kind.

Primary Materials

100% wool yarn and wool roving, transformed into dense and durable felt with both wet felting and needle felting.
