I have been involved with various forms of fibre arts for most of my life, starting first by creating gift items in various methods for family to eventually exhibiting at many shows throughout Ontario. I was delighted to exhibit at " The One of a Kind" show during a five year period, and now restrict most selling to online ventures.
Figures of all kinds have been a part of the exhibits, and are all created by hand in my home studio.Santas, angels, and snowfolk have been perennial favourites as well as unique handmade ornaments. The “Nun of a Kind” collection was added to the holiday line in 2001. The concept of sisterhood and the fact that we all share certain habits, be it our work, hobbies, or duties has grown into the major part of my work at this point. A love of puns and word-play is evident in the individual names of the “sisters”…there is simply no better way to say “You are like a Sister to me!” (A new line of Brothers was introduced at the Toronto show in 2012, to celebrate the men in your life, too!)
Note: there are over 100 different sisters in the Nun of a Kind collection. Building the shop selection on this site will be an ongoing process. Thank you for your patience...but feel free to contact me regarding any questions about Sisters you wish to see in the meantime. I will be glad to send you a photo and description.
"The Nun of a Kind" collection began and grew because of the idea of sisterhood, and the realization that we all share the same habits. Although there were real sisters involved in my education along the way, it was more the fact that we all shared some of the same daily events happening in our lives, and that this was not confined to one religion, that prompted the original idea. The sisterhood grew because clients would ask if there was a certain sister for someone they knew, suiting their interest, hobby, or profession. The assignment for these sisters was the fun part! Finding a name for the figure (preferably some sort of pun!), creating what the figure would hold to signify meaning, and then adding the new sister to the group was part of that process. Many of the sisters in this collection were born because of customer requests...and the list keeps growing! From a humble group of seven, the collection now boasts a group of more than one hundred different characters.
Customers for these items include nuns, those who were nuns, Catholics, casts of theatre productions, and most of all, people looking to bestow a special "sister" upon a friend, relative, or co-worker. The laughter that takes place in the booth is so much fun.....and as "Sister Em Dee", the physician would tell you, "Laughter is the best medicine!"

All items are shipped by Canada Post. Items shipped within Canada will be shipped by expedited post, and should arrive at their destination in 5 business days....sooner if you are in Ontario. Because the items are shipped in a box, and cannot be shipped "flat", there is a minimum charge of $10.00 for each item. However, if the cost of shipping your item is less, your Paypal account will be refunded accordingly for the difference in cost. If the cost is higher than quoted, it is my expense.
Shipping costs are based on shipping one figure. Should you wish to purchase more than one figure, estimated shipping costs will be emailed to you. Very often, the cost of shipping four items is the same cost as shipping two, for example.
